I, Claudius is being repeated on BBC4 at the moment (I see from Twitter - I haven't actually *got* BBC4 but I do have the DVDs.)
I have vague memories of watching this as a child (my Gran used to jokingly call me 'Monster' after Caligula - I was lovely, though, really) but I became obsessed watching the John Hurt episodes with my great aunt on video in '99.
Probably, aside from Doctor Who, the production that most made me itch to be an actor. Just sublime.
Anyone know what's happening with the HBO remake?

I have somehow "mislaid" my DVD box set, so I'm looking to replace it, as 'tis currently available in one of the few record store chains left for only €25... I hadn't heard about a remake - I usually like HBO stuff, but seriously?! How on EARTH can they improve on the BBC production?! It had not only the great John Hurt, but the great Derek Jacobi, Sian Phillips, etc. etc.
I must admit the mere thought fills me with dread... even Caligula didn't scare me THIS much...
