Okay, so Moffat Has a breakdown and demands that, to continue churning out Sherlock, the BBC have to make you a combined showrunner and wardrobe manager for the new Doctor. As we all know, the least important thing about any Doctor is a discernable personality and the MOST important is what sort of jaunty hat (or lack thereof) that he wears.
So, what would you want your Doctor to wear and how would that decide his demeanour? One of my friends suggested leather chaps, a cowboy hat and a T-shirt with "I heart London", which I quite like. He could be a sexually-threatening Doctor.
Alternatively, I think Neil Gaiman's bunch got it right with the Marquis De Carabas in Neverwhere. Given that Neil "Scary Trousers" Gaiman (if you haven't heard that nicnkname, youtube it, the explanation is brilliant) has said the Marquis was his stab at writing a Doctor, and Patterson Joseph's close-but-no-cigar casting, I would be happy to see him as the next Doctor in that garb.
What I really don't want to see, though, is anything wacky. My friend knitted me a question mark jumper, and I made the umbrella, but that doesn't mean I want him to look like the Riddler. Although, I will say, a bright green and purple suit with a question-mark bowler and cane does appeal...
Anyway, your thoughts? Design away...

This is difficult actually! The costume is such a hard thing to get right - and I certainly like the idea of varying it a bit more. The long leather coat still hasn't been done, of course, Carabas etc.
I quite like the idea of dressing entirely in black - not too much leather, mind. "The man who always dresses for a funeral, because he knows he's going to see people die." Black with a splash of unexpected colour. A big, long black woollen, Withnaily coat perhaps. I'd never have suggested combat trousers a few years ago, but some kind of twist on that - black and not too baggy, with pockets everywhere, might be interesting if hard to get right.
A hat and a scarf would be essential I'm afraid, old school that I am. A pork pie or trilby; maybe just one of those cravatty type bandana scarves perhaps. Something that looks modern but recalls all sorts of different eras, I think I'm driving at. Pin badges on the lapels, maybe a musical instrument.
Matt and David between them have done a lot of things I liked so far.

I'd be happy as long as he doesn't have cycling shorts on.
Depends on the new Doctor's body type. If he's another tall, skinny one, then maybe a sort of goth look might be quite interesting - all in black with a slightly steampunky edge (some worn-out boots with lots of buckles?) One needs to be tall to pull this off, I once dated a guy we nicknamed 'The Budgie' because he tried (and failed) so hard to pull off 'The Crow' look.
If he's shorter and/or stockier, maybe a WW2-style flak jacket, give him a bit of an Indiana Jones/Biggles edge?
