I loved Alien on a Submarine. Such an original idea, I thought Chibnall must have come up with it!
I am a Gatissssss apologist. I love the chap, I love his passion for everything - especially HIS history of horror - and especially for Who. I even liked Idiot's Lantern (Who doesn't like the Doc standing up to an abusive husband?!) and Victory. But this was his best since The Unquiet Dead.
Loved how he didn't disrespect the originals, disappointed about the Barbie Doll wackiness that doesn't suit Smith. It worked with Tennant dropping all the stuff, such as the windup mouse, in The Doctor's Daughter as a nice little callback to Baker but here, not so much. There's also been so much speculation about David Warner's character that I'd like it just to be him wanting a throwaway role.
On the whole, three stars, some funny bits.

My issues are all hugely nitpicky...
What's the submarine actually doing? If it's got nuclear warheads, why does it have a civilian archaeologist on board - and what's the drilling/mining aspect all about?
If the creature inside the Ice Warrior suit isn't actually man-sized, why do Slaar, Izlyr and Azaxyr as Ice Lords, look perfectly normally man-sized (bar the scaly skin?)
If he's a Grand Marshall, that would make him an Ice Lord, and they wear sleeker armour and have totally different helmets anyway...
Why was Clara a bit wet? (I mean, in the philosophical sense. It was lovely in the literal sense.)
Battlefield rip-off, much, for the end? The Ice Warrior *dismembered* people. That scene and the aftermath rather feels like no-one actually died, horribly, Ripper-like, in terms of the Doctor's reaction. Lovely Ice Warrior. Despite the huge number of deaths.
Wanted a hissier, softer voice too. But glad it was enjoyed elsewhere! David Warner was terrific.
