Seven has, and always will be, my favourite Doctor. His Big Finish adventures have on the whole been fairly solid, even if at 40-odd Sophie Aldred saying "Professor?" is a bit weird rather than cute.
But anyone disillusioned with the 50th should really pick up Forty Five for a hit of old Who nostalgia. Four tight episodes, varying in quality but all very decent, is really worth it.
Still, that's not the point of this rambling, which is to celebrate McGann in all of his glory. He's the least-known Doctor to Saturday Who fans, to be sure, but I found his Big Finish run - especially with Sheridan Smith's exceptional Lucie Miller - more moving, affecting and sublime than anything Rusty pulled out of his Bad Wolf Bay.
It starts off inoccuous enough, with a healthy distrust for the Doctor, then a grudging respect, then a friendship deeper than Ms Tyler. The Doctor harbours a decent Zygon under her nose and even meets back up with Susan before ending up orbiting a sun for years. And to help him? A version of Lucie bloody Miller. Then, in the final episodes of their era, you realise just how heartbreakingly destroyed she has become. And that's not even a spoiler.
On the whole, this "He's me, but he'll age the same as you" Tennant drivel can get to fuck for the truly emotional epic of The Doctor and Lucie.

Hooray for BF for keeping us in Who in the wilderness years (and, ahem, Series 4... cough) and never mind the New Series, I would *kill* to be in one of them - but shamefully, my budget has never run to the McGann solos, though I loved the first two seasons with Eight and Charley. They are very much on my to-do list!

I've listened to a couple of Eight and Charley, though mainly, I think, due to the Seventh Dimension on Radio 4. One second, I think Tennant has something to say: "AWWWWW...Radio 4, innit bloomin' brilliant? The Beeb? Auntie Beeb? Big auntie there looking after ya, sticking all those old Whos on and pumping out some real good comedy? GAWWW! OH YAHS!"
But do yourself a favour and hunt down some Eight and Lucie. For me, it's up there with One and Susan, Three and Jo, Four and Sarah-Jane, Six and Frobisher, Seven and Ace and Eleven and Pond for brilliant Doctor/Companions.

I dearly regret not sorting out seeing Sheridan Smith in Hedda Gabler, having been in it at drama school. I will seek, locate and absorb, they'll work nicely for the commute.

It was exceptional. Everything (other than Two Pints) she turns her hand to, she can do. And that's not just because I have a huge crush on her....
But do absorb. Just not a loff (lot)
(Abzorbalo...oh, never mind).

Right, I've made a start on these - and yes, very much enjoying them. Up to Immortal Beloved so far. Subtle differences in McGann's performance and a perfect performance from Smith - very nice indeed. Looking forward to the Cybermen...
